- In the Connection Description box, type anything (except COMn where n is
- an integer). Click OK.

- In the Phone number box, under Connect Using, do not specify your
- modem. Rather, scroll down to "Direct to Com n" that your modem is
- using. Click OK.

- In COM n Properties, configure the port as you choose. Then you're in
- terminal mode on that COM port.

- When you exit HyperTerminal, do say OK to save the session you just
- named. Then drag a shortcut to that icon in the
- \Program Files\Accessories\HyperTerminal folder onto the desktop.
- Rename it as you please.

- The next time you double-click the shortcut, you'll be directly
- connected to your modem.
