  17. In the Connection Description box, type anything (except COMn where n is
  18. an integer).  Click OK.

  20. In the Phone number box, under Connect Using, do not specify your
  21. modem.  Rather, scroll down to "Direct to Com n" that your modem is
  22. using.  Click OK.

  24. In COM n Properties, configure the port as you choose.  Then you're in
  25. terminal mode on that COM port.

  27. When you exit HyperTerminal, do say OK to save the session you just
  28. named.  Then drag a shortcut to that icon in the
  29. \Program Files\Accessories\HyperTerminal folder onto the desktop.
  30. Rename it as you please.

  32. The next time you double-click the shortcut, you'll be directly
  33. connected to your modem.
